I bought the old junker from a Canadian chap in Surreyshire who inherited it from his next neighbour who was none other than the amazing David 'Kid' Jensen...so I was told.

Will update some pics soon of what it looks like now!

Project Build Threads / Another old Peugeot build

I have managed to get hold of another old Pug MTB this time a Montana from Circa 1988. It had the usual stuck seat post which all my Peugeot's seem to have which I sorted with some heat and a lot of spray lithium grease....









Will be stripped and powder coated in a few weeks.

I will uploads some pictures when it is done.

I bought this while I was rebuilding the Python and used it as a daily hack. It is one of the most comfortable bikes I have owned.

Everything was original on it even the tyres and it all worked well and felt really solid. Personally I think these are great bikes.

I got the frame and forks back from the powders coaters so I can get on with the build  :) :)

The frame and forks went of to the Powder Coaters on Wednesday and my better half choose the colour  :o which can only mean two things, it is going to be bright or very bright!!!!!

I used aurora powdercoating in Ash as they have a really good reputation and have been very helpful so far..

After fitting the XT Shifters I decided to switch out the rear Freewheel for a 7 speed shimano one to replace the original 6. This would make use of the extra clicks from the shifters  :) at the same time I updated the original Exage Trail rear mech to a late 80's 500LX Exage unit which is a lot smoother and works well with new shifters.



Next jobs include servicing the hubs and new rear quick release axle.

Readers Rides - Pre 1988 MTB's / 1987/88 GT Timberline Ishiwata Chromoly

This is one of my collection of Old Skool Rides, it is 1987/88 GT Timberline. It was not a a very high end bike in it's day but I have always loved old GT's and when this came up I could not resist. I imported it from Italy and it is in pretty good condition for a 25 year old bike.

It is largely an exage trial gear set with a biopace crank and 18 gears, it sports a cool u brake and in even cooler adjustable seat post.











Although I am a sucker for originality but I also hate plastic brake parts so I have started upgrading the brakes and shifters. I sourced some Shimano XT thumb shifters and SLR brake levers in keeping with year of the bike. To keep the 80's feel I have also sourced some Vans grips for good measure. The bottom bracket was also shot so I upgraded this to a sealed unit that is 118mm wide to give better clearance for the u brake. When this is finished it will be my new commuter bike.







I will post a few pics when it is all finished.

So I finally got the frame fully stripped (had even more grief getting the headset cups out) and sent of to the powder coaters along with the stem. I have also managed to source some Shimano XT thumb shifter which I post up when they arrive.

I have named this project 'Pain in the Arse' instead of project Python...should be that much more rewarding when complete with all the battle scars from my hands to remind me of the build
